Update on Itching and Food Allergies

I promised you an update on my health situation so here it is! I am allergic to:

  • Eggs
  • Dairy
  • Almonds
  • Kidney, lima, navy and green beans
  • Cashews
  • Wheat germ--no allergy to gluten
Peanuts and watermelon did not show up on this list because I haven't been able to eat them for 20+ years.

Not terrible and definitely doable! The test that was done was called the FoodStats Antibody Assessment from US BioTek in Seattle, WA. As my doctor described it, if your digestive system is not working properly, you can become allergic to foods that normally would be okay because the proteins are getting into your blood stream and your immune system is producing antibodies to fight the food proteins. As you improve the digestive system using digestive aids and probiotics and then help your immune system to forget to fight those allergy foods (by not eating for 6-12 months) it is possible to be able to eat many of the allergy foods again without incident. This particular test did not test identifying anaphylaxis.

I am still having a little itching since coming off the Prednisone but I am able to control it with oral allergy medicine. I am not sure how long it takes for the offending food proteins to be completely out of my body but hoping it will be soon.

My poor hubby had the same test done and found that in addition to the items on my list he was was also allergic to oats, flax seed, red chili pepper, soy, broccoli and cauliflower:( We will be diligent in working these foods out of our system and hopefully by next Christmas will be eating our favorite foods again! Fortunately there are sooo many good foods to eat that with a little rethinking in the cooking department, we should do just fine! Both of us could afford to lose a few pounds!!!

Do you have any recent health challenges? I would love to pray for you and your situation. If you don't feel comfortable sharing in the comment section, please click the "email me" button and send me an email.

Have a great day! I'm off to walk on the treadmill:)
