Fab Over Fifty

My favorite website for the week is Fab Over Fifty!  I love being over 50 and this website embraces the life of women over 50! My husband occasionally asks if I would want to turn back to clock to my 20s or 30s.  My answer is always "NO THANK YOU!!!" I am finally happy in my own skin. That took me a long time to accomplish and I wouldn't want to go back to the insecure days of my youth for anything.

This website has pajamas made with wicking fabric for women who have hot flashes, plus other stylish pajamas as well. They have health information, beauty tips, a section called "Date My Single Kid", a FOF store and drawings for free trips.

Check out Fab Over Fifty for fun information about growing old gracefully!

Have a great day--especially if you are Fab and over Fifty:)  Kat

Honey Mustard Dressing

A picture taken, of A Green Salad.Image via Wikipedia
My favorite salad dressing is Honey Mustard but I rarely ever have it in the house. First of all, not all Honey Mustard Dressings are created equal. The other day I wanted Honey Mustard Dressing on my salad so decided to Google for a recipe and found a super easy, super yummy recipe. I hope you enjoy it too!

Honey Mustard Dressing
by Mary Ann Benzon found on allrecipes.com

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
1 Tbsp. honey
1/2 Tbsp. lemon juice

In a small bowl whisk together mayonnaise, mustard, honey and lemon juice. Store covered in the refrigerator.

Your next salad will be the best ever!  Enjoy! Kat

Stamping Club Projects for March

Thursdays I try to blog about things I love and I LOVE our Happy Stampers stamping club!!!  I meet once a month with the best group of ladies and we have sooo much fun!  I wanted to share with you the projects we did last week.  They turned out sooo cute!!!
The card on the left is made using Pretty in Pink, Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla Cardstock. The stamp set is in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini catalog and it is called Easter Blossoms. The blossoms were stamped using the Pretty in Pink Classic Ink Pad. The girl and the saying were stamped using the Chocolate Chip Classic Ink Pad. All of the edges were sponged with Chocolate Chip Ink. I also used Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper for the bottom of the card. The "ribbon" used is a new Stampin' Up! item and is actually 1/2" seam binding. And the color is Pear Pizzazz! Don't you LOVE the gathered effect.  The "pearls" were purchased at a craft store but were waayyy more expensive than the ones in the Stampin' Up! catalog so I'd better lay in a supply:) Thank you Dawn Griffith for this great idea.

The next card became a stamping club project after I had to make a quick Thank You card for one of my husband's clients.  I liked it so much I took the idea to stamping club and they loved the quick and easy idea.  I also made three Sympathy Cards using the same general idea! I used Marina Mist and Very Vanilla Cardstock. Again I used Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper and Pear Pizzazz 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon. The flower is an item called Vintage Flower Adornments and comes in a package of 24 (8 Very Vanilla, 8 Rose Red, and 8 Baja Breeze). The saying is from the stamp set called Sincere Salutations. Oh, and I almost forgot my favorite part of this card--the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder for the Big Shot!  I think the embossed tulips make this card, don't you?!!! I am thinking I need more embossing folders...hmmm!

Last but not least is a card we made at a workshop I did while at my daughter's the beginning of the month. We made two cards at the workshop--the Cupcake Card I posted last month and the one I am showing here. This is also a card I saw on Dawn Griffith's website but I believe the original was made by Shelli Gardner, Cofounder and CEO of Stampin' Up! For this card I used Crumb Cake and Whisper White Cardstock (I would have normally used Very Vanilla but was away from home and only had my Whisper White with me so sponged the edges of the scalloped oval with Early Espresso Ink). I have a "thing" going with the Springtime Vintage Designer Series Paper, Vintage Flower Adornments and the Easter Blossoms stamp set. The cherry blossoms were stamped using the Rose Red Classic Ink Pad and the saying was stamped using the Early Espresso Classic Ink Pad. I also used the Eyelet Border Punch and Crumb Cake 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon. The saying was punched out using the Scallop Oval Punch.

I hope you have a creative outlet--one where you can express yourself and share it with others.  If not, let me help you discover cardmaking and scrapbooking.  Papercrafting is one craft I have been doing for nearly 20 years and I never get tired of it.

Have a creative day and do something you love.  Kat

Update on Resolutions

I wish I had more progress to report:(

  • I have made most of the cards I have given so far this year.
  • Exercise has been sporadic.  Back on the wagon this week!
  • I have lost 5 pounds--not great but not gaining anyway!
  • Craft Room is about half way done.  I need to spend some serious time in there.
  • Getting up at 5:00 am is just not happening right now, for whatever reason but I will keep working on it.
  • Haven't started my kitchen yet but Spring is here:)
  • I have been reading more than one non-fiction book per month.  My books for this month were "Oil Pulling" and "Eat Fat, Stay Thin" by Bruce Fife, ND. I might have the time to squeeze one more in before the month is over!
  • I still need to work on taking more pictures.
I hope your resolutions are going better than mine but I still have nine months left to work on them.

Have a great day and thanks for checking my blog today!  Kat

All Things Apple

Image representing Apple as depicted in CrunchBaseImage via CrunchBase
We have become an Apple household.  My husband has a Mac Mini. I have a MacBook Pro and an iPod Touch.  We love our Apple products!  The iPad is on my wish list.

My husband has his own list of why he likes his Apple computer.  My list, however, involves the iTunes App Store!  I am amazed at the number and variety of apps you can purchase for a very small amount or get for FREE! I have only downloaded a few apps for my MacBook but have downloaded hundreds for my iPod Touch. I am officially an App Junkie. The apps I have downloaded range from the Bible and religious books to time management apps and games.  There truly is an app for everything!  Recently I downloaded an app called "My Kid Said". Now when my daughter tells me something my granddaughter has said or done that is noteworthy, I type the information into "My Kid Said". I have cookbook apps, an app to text for free, news apps, dictionary and thesaurus apps and even "Word a Day". By the way, today's word is "pertinacious" which means stubborn; determined. I have knitting apps and productivity apps.  It is truly amazing what you can find.  I even have an app called "App Miner" that tells me when apps are on sale!

If I don't answer when you call, I just might be downloading more Apps for my iPod Touch.  Leave a message and I will return your call:)

Apple Pie--No Added Sugar

Apple PieImage by bucklava via Flickr
I would love to call this recipe "Sugar Free" but we all know the apples have plenty of sugar just as God made them.  This is the apple pie recipe I used when my children were growing up and I have even served it for breakfast!  I made an apple pie using this recipe and took it to a potluck last weekend and it was a hit.  If you are sugar "challenged" or just want to cut back on your sugar intake, try this recipe and I think you will be pleased.

Apple Pie--No Sugar Added

6-8 Fugi apples (or apples of your choice), pared, cored and thinly sliced
     (about 6 cups)
1 15 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained
3 Tablespoons unbleached flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash ground nutmeg
Pastry for 2-crust 10-inch pie
2 Tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

Combine first five ingredients. Line pie plate with pastry. Spread butter/margarine over pastry bottom and sides. Fill with apple mixture. Place top crust over apples, seal and cut slits in top crust for steam to escape. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes or until apples are soft but not mushy.

Having Fun!

On Monday, I traveled through a very rainy and windy Columbia Gorge on the way to my daughter's!  The sky was so dark and dreary I was having second thoughts about traveling but it turned out just fine.  I will be here till next Monday, then travel home again.  Being retired really does have it's advantages!

My granddaughter is a five (almost six, going on seven) year old bundle of energy and imagination. We have played restaurant, school, airplane and pet shop/vet. We have played table games, sat in her little playhouse and talked, had a tea party and slid down the stairs on our bottoms! I helped take her to kindergarten on Tuesday and her Kindermusik class. I love listening to her practice her glockenspiel and the piano. I sleep in her room on a blow-up mattress and have every visit since she was born.  Neither of us would have it any other way:) Being a Gramma is the most amazing opportunity!

Saturday we will be visiting some very dear friends I have known most of my life. This will be the first time they have seen my granddaughter.  Then on Sunday, I will do a Stampin' Up! workshop before I go home.  I am looking forward to sharing some of the NEW Stampin' Up! products with my hostess and her friends.  I will post our projects next week.

Well, friends, most likely won't blog again this week but am looking forward to catching up and getting back on track with my blogging next week!

Have a good day and a great weekend!  Kat

Blog Candy Update

I was really surprised and disappointed that my Blog Candy was a flop:(  However, we do have a winner, Katie, and she will receive both scarves she liked because she was the one and only entry.  Thank you for posting a comment, Katie!

I will try a Blog Candy again later on with something totally different--perhaps my readers just don't like hand knitted scarves!

Thank you for checking in.  Kat
