New Year Fun--2012 Edition

Picture courtesy of Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom

I am joining Sandra from Diary of a Stay at Home Mom in a review of the last blogging year. 2012 was by far my best blogging year yet! I wrote 2 1/2 more blog posts this year over last year, more than doubled my Followers and tripled the number of blog visits! Thank you to all my faithful readers! I have some new and fun things in store for 2013 but will take them one step at a time so I don't overwhelm myself--so easy to do!

So, the idea of this post is to do a year in review and share the first sentence of the first blog post of each month. I hope you enjoy! I know it will be fun for me to look back...

January...

As I was looking over my Resolutions for last year and deciding what to do this year, I was surprised that I did as well as I did.

The fingerless mittens that never got finished:(
February...

Oops! Looks like I took a month off! Shame on me! Will try NOT to do that in 2013!

March...

I am sooo sorry I have been away so long! I didn't realize it had been over a month till I logged on to blog this morning!

Our Stamping Club projects for February were sooo much fun! Even if the projects weren't fun it is great to get together with a group of ladies and visit!

My favorite Easter card! I might just make them again this year:)
Maybe change up the colors a bit!
April...

I got a set of the Everyday Elegance Simply Sent Cards & Envelopes for free during Sale-a-bration. So, what to do with them.

May...

Saturday I took my little camera out and was snapping more pictures of Spring:) The lilacs are starting to bloom out. They are sooo pretty.

June...

I had a town day with my hubby on Monday! Lots we needed to do but got to do some fun stuff too like eat lunch at Olive Garden:)

My favorite doily pattern and I actually finished it!
July...

This picture is of Buckwheat. My husband plants it as a cover crop in part of the garden to add nutrients to the soil.

August...

My Happy Stampers meet TONIGHT and I am sooo excited for them to see the projects I have for them!

Another favorite card:)

September...

Have you heard about Quinoa?

I LOVE this card!!!

October...

I have been a little slow getting around the last two days--granddaughter wore me out:) but it was worth every second! Yesterday I caught up on the laundry and did some dusting; today will be vacuuming, mopping and some clutter busting!

A score from Pinterest! It makes me laugh every time I see it!
November...

Welcome November! This year has just flown by! Where did it go?

Ahhh! Applesauce finished!
December...

Welcome to the Sunday Night Chit-Chat initiated each Sunday by Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily.

I hope you enjoyed the trip down Memory Lane as much as I did! I had forgotten about some of the posts I had done and the projects I made! 2013 is a blank slate filled with possibilities and I look forward to having you share that journey with me.

Have a great and safe New Year's Eve! Mentioning New Year's Eve reminds me of my 7 year old granddaughter. She is quite the planner and staying up late is a really big deal for her. Well, tonight she will be staying up till MIDNIGHT and yes, she can do it even if her Gramma can't! The last few days she has been all about making it a party--food, movies, games--you name it! It will only be her, mommy and daddy but she will have the party goin' on anyway! Gotta love it!

See ya in 2013! Sorry, Sandra, I didn't make the Happy Homemaker Monday today but enjoyed reflecting on 2012! Thanks for the nudge:)

Sunday Night Chit-Chat

I know I shared a similar picture but had to get one more in of our beautiful snow! We got one more inch last night but it is melting a little each day. I think we probably still have 5 or 6 inches. Our view is outstanding!

Welcome to the last Sunday Night Chit-Chat of 2012! It is initiated each week by the very talented Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily. Please stop by to wish her well (her family was sooo sick last week) and see what she's been up to. Her blog is always a very nice place to visit!

So, let the Chit-Chat begin!!!

I am...

Reading...I don't think I have had much reading time since last week so reading the second part of Mail Order Holiday Brides by Jillian Hart and Janet Tronstad. For our read aloud we are 78% through To The Far Blue Mountains by Louis L'Amour. I am also lusting over the wonderful patterns in 101 Patchwork Projects + Quilts! Such a wonderful Christmas gift:)

Watching...Just finished watching Christmas with Holly which is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie we recorded a couple weeks ago. If you watch this one be sure to have a Kleenex box nearby! I need a Kleenex box for ALL the Hallmark Hall of Fame movies. We recently signed up for SpiritClips so we can see all 55 Hallmark Hall of Fame movies plus some other Hallmark Channel movies. This was a great addition to our Netflix.

Listening to...The hum of the generator (didn't have wind or sun today) in the background and the dogs snoring in the foreground:)

Cooking/Baking...Not much today. We had hashbrowns and scrambled tofu for breakfast and had a light supper. Wasn't much into cooking today.

Happy you accomplished this week...We made it through Christmas without me getting sick. That is a huge accomplishment for me because I tend to procrastinate and then push too hard at the last leaving me vulnerable to every bug flying about! So far, so good this year! Guess the flu earlier in the month was it!

Looking forward to next week...2013! I think I'm ready! 2012 was good but I am thinking 2013 will be even better:D I am also looking forward to a little sewing time. I want to get started on Carla's tutorials and I am really wanting to find a fun project to make in my new book 101 Patchwork Projects + Quilts.

Thankful for today...No itching:) I haven't had any itching all day!

Bonus Question: Am I looking forward to 2013 or sorry to see 2012 leave? I think I answered that question above. I am definitely looking forward to 2013!

Well, that's it for my Sunday Night Chit-Chat. What is YOUR answer to the Bonus Question?

Have a great evening!

5 Things Friday

Welcome to 5 Things Friday! Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily usually hosts but she is sick as you will see if you visit her blog. Yesterday she had a temperature of 102 (F). Please stop over and give her a get well wish! My 5 things today are just random thoughts so let's get started!

#1...I finally had the crisis my doctor predicted so got the prescription for prednisone filled that he gave me before he went on vacation. I still have some itching but it is way easier to handle than it was. I will take the medication until I see him on January 4. I was able to get a list of the worst food allergies so know to stay away from:

  • Dairy (pretty much was anyway)
  • Eggs
  • Almonds (I eat a small handful every day)
  • Beans (I'm a vegetarian; now what do I eat?!!!)
  • Cashews (my favorite nut but can only get them without peanut oil at Trader Joes so don't get them often--been allergic to peanuts for years)
  • Wheat but not gluten so that means I can eat things made with white flour but not whole wheat.
  • Cantaloupe (doesn't surprise me as I have been allergic to every other melon for years so it was only a matter of time)
Fortunately this list isn't as bad as it could have been. I am going to have to figure out how to eat without using beans at least some of the time but the rest will be pretty easy.

#2...We got 8" of snow ON Christmas Day! It started about 6:30 in the morning and snowed ALL day! It was beautiful...me inside and the pretty fluffy snow outside:)
Picture looking out our front door.
The tiny peak in the right hand side is Mt Hood.
#3...Gotta share a photo of my granddog, Zoe in her Christmas outfit...

I have a couple of really good pictures of her with my granddaughter (legs in the picture) but have an agreement with DD and SIL that I won't post pictures of her on my blog. Isn't Zoe adorable? The had a collar with fuzzy red and white and bells. She also had anklets for all four paws. Then to top off the adorable outfit she had a headband with antlers. She didn't mind the headband but didn't like the bells!

#4...Okay, gotta show OUR dogs now!

Beau on the left and granddog Rocky on the right

When I got the camera out, Beau and Rocky were cuddling by the fire. However, when I turned the camera on, this was the best I could get. They really like each other and Beau can frequently be found with his head on Rocky or his leg over the top of him.

#5...Our car had to go into the shop this week because the check engine light came on and the car was surging:( We were prepared for a huge expense but it only cost $200 and we get the car back today:) The car is a Toyota Avalon and has over 200,000 miles on it but we are hoping to go to 300,000 before replacing it. We bought the car when it had 65,000 miles and had just had the engine replaced so it has served us well. I would like to find another one just like it! Dependable and comfy!

Okay, that's my five for this Friday! Do you have any random thoughts to share? I would love to read them; just leave a comment or a link to your blog.

I still have some handmade Christmas cards I received that I want to post so will see if I can get that done next week:)

Thanks for stopping by and I will be back on Sunday evening for the Sunday Night Chit Chat. Carla has a giveaway on her blog and she will name the winner during her Sunday Night Chit-Chat so hop on over to My 1/2 Dozen Daily to enter! Have a great weekend!

Thankful Thursday

It's time for Thankful Thursday! I look forward to sharing with you today:)

#1...Yesterday was a crisis day for me with my rash:( Sooo, I am thankful for the Prednisone prescription my doctor gave me before he left for his two week vacation. He told me I would know when it was time to fill it and yesterday was definitely the day!  Plus hubby got me some new anti-itch lotion to try and it seems to be working!

#2...I have finally narrowed the cause from my rash down to BREAD! Don't know if it's gluten, wheat or yeast but it's one of them. That's the closest we have been yet!

#3...Hubby bought me two new pair of pajamas:) I think it has been 3 years since I last bought a pair of pjs and these are super cute and soft! Thank you, Sweetie!

#4...I am a die-hard tea drinker! I love everything about tea...brewing, drinking, relaxing--alone or with friends. My daughter and her hubby got me a Teavana Camilla Cylindre and two Teavana teas (the best!)
#5...Christmas Day it started snowing at 6:30 am and continued snowing most of the day. We got 8" in all! It was truly beautiful and the fact we didn't have to go anywhere was even better! Today the sun was shining on the snow and it was so sparkly and pretty:) Snow on Christmas! Isn't that we always hope for?

#6...I am thankful for my wonderful family and the time I was able to spend with them over the last few days!

I am also thankful for each one of you who take time out of your day to visit my blog to see what I am up to!

Have a wonderful day!

Happy Homemaker Monday

It's Christmas Eve and time for Happy Homemaker Monday! Today I will be traveling home from my darling daughter's so hoping for some good weather on the passes!

Happy Homemaker Monday is initiated each week by Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. So be sure to check out her blog to see what she's been up to!

The weather...Cold and rainy! Hoping for snow on Christmas Day!

Right now I am...Sitting with a cup of Teavana tea I received for Christmas from daughter and family:)

Thinking...About what I need to buy on my way home. We live nearly two hours from the nearest Costco and 1 1/2 hours from a supermarket so will get what we need on the trip home; probably in Yakima.

On my reading pile...

  • Angels at the Table by Debbie Macomber (Christmas gift)
  • When Christmas Comes by Debbie Macomber
  • 101 Patchwork Projects + Quilts (Christmas gift)
  • Mail Order Holiday Brides by Jillian Hart and Janet Tronstad (on iPad)
  • Four Week Financial Turnaround by Derek C. Olsen (on iPad)
  • Where is God When it Hurts? by Philip Yancey (on iPad)
On my tv...I would like to watch a few Christmas movies on SpiritClips. We just signed up and I am looking forward to watching the 50+ Hallmark Hall of Fame movies plus other Hallmark Channel movies:)

Favorite Blog Post this week (mine or other)... Finding the Words by Elizabeth Farrar at Bella Vita!

Something fun to share...My granddaughter, age 7, went Christmas shopping with her dad to buy gifts for my daughter. Then my granddaughter said to her mom, "Do you have a puff, Mom?" My daughter said she didn't have one so my granddaughter said, "Well, don't buy one before Christmas!" We laughed so hard. Now, every time we see a bath puff we say, "Don't buy one before Christmas!" Kids are truly wonderful creatures!!!

On the menu...I am flying by the seat of my pants this week in the food department! Haven't made a menu and just plan to use what we have which is plenty:)

On my to do list...
  • Travel home from daughter's
  • One more Christmas gift to purchase (for hubby)
  • Laundry when I get home
  • Sewing while the guys are skiing on Sunday
What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or crafting...
  • Just finished sewing Eternity Scarf together
  • Crocheted potholders
  • Some sewing projects yet to be determined
Homemaking tips...Don't have one today.

Looking around the house...I am at my daughter's house and as I look around I see a puzzle we were working on, Christmas decorations, her piano with Christmas music she was playing, some Christmas presents laying around from our opening party on Saturday evening:) I love spending time with this special family!

From the camera...I don't have anything today.

On my prayer list...A family who lost their dad recently plus still praying for those who lost loved ones in CT shooting.

Bible Verse; Devotional...
"Think too of all who suffer as if you shared their pain." Hebrews 13:3 (JB Phillips translation)

Well, need to get on the road so we can get home at a decent time. Have a great day! Hug the ones you love today!

Sunday Night Chit-Chat

Last night we opened gifts with my daughter and family. It was so much fun! My darling granddaughter was over-the-top excited to be able to open presents...FINALLY!

The biggest excitement and surprise for me yesterday was my blog hit 10,000 Page Views!!! It always amazes me when I hit a new milestone! I love blogging and the fact that you enjoy visiting is both humbling and thrilling for me:) Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

It's time for the Sunday Night Chit-Chat before Christmas:) Okay, I am definitely in the holiday mood! It was a long time coming but once we were finally in the car on the way to my daughter's I was able to relax and enjoy:) The Sunday Night Chit-Chat is started each week by Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily. Be sure to check in with Carla to see what she's been up to:)

Since I haven't been very good with taking photos lately, I decided to go on Pinterest to see if I could find a fun quote for tonight. The above is so perfect because after 33 1/2 years, my sweet Hubby and I just seem to enjoy each other more every day.

So, let the Sunday Night Chit-Chat begin!

I am...

Reading...I got a new Debbie Macomber book for Christmas from my daughter and family--Angels at the Table (haven't started reading it yet)! I love the stories about the angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy! My daughter also got me 101 Patchwork Projects + Quilts. Love it! My daughter to the rescue again!!! After I saw the one Carla got I HAD TO HAVE IT!!! I am also reading Mail Order Holiday Brides by Jillian Hart and Janet Tronstad.

Watching...Ice Age--Dawn of the Dinosaur and then How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Listening to...The movie playing and family talking.

Cooking/Baking...Nothing today:)

Looking Forward to this week...Christmas and some sewing time afterward.

Happy I accomplished this week...I got everything ready to leave for my daughter's by Friday--whoo hoo! That was quite an accomplishment! Also got the house ready for our company that is now NOT coming for Christmas! Oh well, at least it's done! They might (but unlikely) come for New Year's!

Thankful for today...My wonderful visit with daughter and family! AND I think I have narrowed down my food allergy to BREAD! Don't know if it's the wheat, gluten or yeast yet but will avoid it like the plague! I had bread pudding on Thursday and Friday morning, then bread dressing on Saturday. My rash flared up and I felt like I was on fire! Bingo!!! Pretty conclusive!

Well, that is it for me tonight! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend and are totally ready to enjoy your holiday with family and friends!

Holiday Greenery

To add to my stress of getting ready for Christmas before taking off for DD's, we had the off of some beautiful greenery for FREE! I couldn't turn it down so Hubby and I decided to make a swag to go above the opening where our sofa sets. We both decided where the pieces went but Hubby did the wiring!

We had fir, pine, cedar and holly to work with in abundance and it was all so fresh and great to work with.

The finished product!

Hubby has LED lights along the top of the opening which shine up and illuminate the swag! It is exactly what we needed and wanted there. When we were finished we still had a lot of greenery so I decided to try my hand at making a centerpiece.

Picture is kinda washed out but it really turned out nice (for a first try anyway)! When I got finished I thought I might like to put a candle in it but discovered if you want a candle you have to put it in FIRST! Next year I'll try to remember that! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here!

Well, I am off to visit DD and DGD for the weekend. We will do a little shopping in Yakima on the way up. I hope you have wonderful things planned for the holiday!

January Decluttering and No/Low Spend Challenge

Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily has issued a challenge for the month of January--Decluttering and No/Low Spend! You can join just half...either half or all of the challenge. I never did update you on my 100 Thing Super Fling Boogie (or Reverse 100 Things Challenge--I like my title best) but I did make the 100! So according to the new challenge I am supposed to let you know what my main goal is for the parts of the challenge I choose to participate in. I am going to go for broke and participate in both parts:

  • Decluttering goal: Continue on with my 100 Thing Super Fling Boogie by getting rid of 100 more things in January. I will update you each Friday on my 5 Things Friday post.
  • Low Spend goal: My hubby takes care of the bills in our house AND shops for groceries so that is not money I even worry about. However, I do have my allowance which I am trying to learn to manage better. Sooo...for January I am going to allow myself $20 spending money and put the rest of my allowance away. I will also update you on what I spent my money on each Friday.
You DO know I "stalk" Carla's blog, right?!!! She has such great ideas and I LOVE her new tutorials for the mug rug, coffee cozy and zippy wallet!

I hope you will join us for the Declutter and No/Low Spend Challenge. It sure can't hurt! I am looking forward to getting rid of more STUFF!

Time for me to say goodnight!

Scentsational Gift Tags

You might be wondering how I am doing with my "to do" list since I have been stressing for the last two weeks! Well, it is nearly DONE! I just have to finish cleaning the guest apartment in the morning but hubby has sweetly offered to do the floors so that means I only have to dust and clean the bathroom! Everything else is DONE! DONE!  and DONE!!!

I made Russian Teacakes (hubby's favorite) and Mrs. Field's $250 Cookies (my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe)! Today I treated myself to some Bread Pudding made with my own homemade bread--DELICIOUS! I didn't get any sewing done but I am going to forgive myself and start sewing in January. My DGD will get her doll clothes for Valentine's Day:)

Yesterday I went to town to find a couple of things for some gift baskets I was putting together and found the cutest potholders! They are made out of blue jeans pockets!

The other side is the same fabric used at the top. I bought three sets for gifts and one set for myself:) I wanted to have a set to use as a pattern.

I was hoping to find one more box of Christmas cards because I was just a few short but no such luck in our small town. So, today I made a few Christmas cards. I will try to get a few pictures of them before I leave in the morning.

Anyway, I am feeling much less stressed and ready to enjoy my weekend with DD and DGD:)

My tags for today are my favorites of all we made at our Happy Stampers Club this month. They were designed by our very own Kim and she brought the samples and all supplies for his to replicate her adorable tags. See what I mean?!!!
For these gift tags we used the Scentsational Season stamp set with the coordinating Holiday Collection Framelits Dies.

We used Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper. How cute are these!

And this one is my VERY favorite! I am embarrassed to say I didn't order this stamp set and dies:( I really, really, really hope they show up in the next Stampin' Up! yearly catalog! You can still order them through January 2!

I leave tomorrow morning. I am hoping to be able to do the Sunday Night Chit-Chat but can't make any promises since my granddaughter will be calling the shots. But maybe I can get her Uncle Scott to play video games with her or do some Lego building so I can get a few blogging minutes.

Have a nice evening and I hope your "to do" list is also done!

Christmas Tags from the Happy Stampers

Last Wednesday night my Happy Stampers group made gift tags for our Christmas packages! I think we ended up with 10 different tags--some were similar but still different.

The tag at left was inspired by one I saw on Stamping Connection (the demonstrator's website "idea place") made by Susan Yuhasz. I didn't have the Top Note Die so substituted my very favorite Labels Collection Framelits instead!
For these tags I used the following Stampin' Up! products:

  • Very Vanilla card stock for top one; Cherry Cobbler card stock for one on right
  • Be of Good Cheer Designer Series Paper
  • Tags Til Christmas stamp set
  • Gumball Green Classic Stampin' Pad
  • Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding Ribbon; Linen Thread
  • Big Shot and Labels Collection Framelits
Well, I'm off to tackle that huge "to do" list again! On my "to do" list for today:
  • Finish Christmas cards--did 40 yesterday and have about that many more today (at least 1/2 are hubby's business clients)
  • Make a swag for living room (fresh greenery on the deck waiting)
  • Bake cookies for Christmas baskets
Don't think I will get more than that done today! Hope to get the Christmas cards mailed today. Wish me luck! I will have more tags for you tomorrow:)

Happy Homemaker Monday

Well, it's Monday once again! I missed the Sunday Night Chit-Chat because we were at a snowy bonfire put on by some friends. This morning I discovered that dear Carla did her Sunday Night Chit-Chat post and then lost it:( I hate it when that happens!

So happy to be able to participate with Sandra in the Happy Homemaker Monday today! Sandra initiates the Happy Homemaker Monday from her blog Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. So, let's get started!

The weather...43 degrees and super windy! The wind blustered all night and looks like it will continue throughout today anyway!

Right now I am...Sitting on the sofa, looking out the window, drinking a cup of Orange Ginger Chai Tea (Uncle Lee's version). Just finished a phone call with the cell phone company to find out why the cell phone was turned off after one month. It was our fault: the debit card broke so got a new one; same number but new expiration and code! We're back on again:) Now I need my tea!

Thinking...About all the things I have to get done before Friday! We are leaving for DD's on Friday and there is sooo much to do before I leave. Then we come back Christmas Eve and have company coming Christmas Day! Oops! Starting to hyperventilate again!

On my reading pile...Almost finished with Homespun Bride and I actually picked up Happiness Key again. Maybe I'll get it read yet! Haven't had much read aloud time this month but we put our Louis L'Amour book aside to read Christmas in My Heart, Book 21. I can't believe I have been collecting these books for 21 years already!!!

On my tv...I watched an episode of Downton Abbey, season 2 on PBS last night. The new season starts in January:)

Favorite Blog Post this week (mine or other)...Carla at My 1/2 Dozen Daily did a 9 part tutorial for making a mug rug! And if you like that one she also did a tutorial for a Zippy Wallet and a Coffee Cozy! I truly wanted to get these done for Christmas but will just have to forgive myself and work on them in January! Another post well worth reading is Sandra's post called So Much on My Mind--poignant

Something fun to share...Honestly can't think of a thing at the moment. My head is full of my "to do" list and the terrible tragedy in Connecticut. My granddaughter is seven...'nuff said!

On the menu this week...My family is going to be lucky if I make anything but this is the plan so far:
Monday--Potato Corn Chowder with sandwiches
Tuesday--Big Salad
Wednesday--Rice and Pinto Beans
Thursday--Whatever is easy
Friday-Monday--Daughter's house; her menu

On my to do list...

  • Finish getting Christmas cards out
  • Clean guest apartment (company on Christmas)
  • Wrap presents
  • Laundry
  • Bake cookies for gift baskets
What I am sewing, crocheting, knitting or creating...
  • Doll outfit for granddaughter
  • STILL working on Infinity Scarf
  • Card for card swap
Homemaking Tip...We have discovered the joys of White Distilled Vinegar! I have been using it to relieve my itching (when it quits burning it feels great) plus have added it to laundry to make sure soap is rinsed out of the clothes AND you can add it to your dishwasher instead of Jet Dry! At $2.99/gallon (less if you get it on sale) it is a bargain in anybody's book! Check out 1001 Uses for Distilled White Vinegar. Last week I added it to my water for mopping the kitchen floor!

Looking around the house...Not good:( Shouldn't take too long to get it cleaned up though--just messy!

From the camera...Still nothing:( I will try to have something for next week!

On my prayer list...Praying for the families and friends of the victims of the tragedy in CT. Also praying for my precious granddaughter who went to school this morning in WA state.

Bible Verse; Devotional...

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55:22

Well, that is it for me today! Gotta get busy on that "to do" list! I will be back tomorrow with some gift tags from our Happy Stampers meeting last week.

Hug your kids just a little tighter and a little longer today!
