N is for Netflix

According to Wikipedia, "Netflix, Inc. is an American provider of on-demand Internet streaming media available to both North and South America, the Caribbean, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and flat rate DVD-by-mail in the United States, where mailed DVDs are sent via Permit Reply Mail. The company was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California."

We have been Netflix subscribers for about five years now! Currently we subscribe to both the streaming and DVD-by-mail services.

We enjoy watching the documentaries, PBS programs, family and inspirational films. For a price far below cable or satellite Netflix gives us the the opportunity to choose what we want to watch and when.

Some of my favorite programs have been:

  • Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead
  • Forks over Knives
  • Call the Midwife
  • Downton Abbey
  • Steve Jobs, the Lost Interview
  • Happy
  • Hachi, a Dog's Tale
I could add a lot more but you get the idea!

If you are tired of your high cable or satellite bill, try Netflix for a one month free trial to see if you could at least reduce your cable or satellite to the basic package. We never had cable or satellite so that wasn't the issue for us.

Do you have Netflix? Do you like it? Do you think it is worth the money?

We pay $7.99 a month for the streaming plan and $9.99 for the Blu-ray DVD-by-mail plan. Not bad for all Netflix has to offer!

Tomorrow is the letter O! What to write about...onions, Oreos, obstructions, ovaries, obsessions...hmmm!

  1. Oh, because we only have like 2.5 channels on our TV, Netflix is a life-savor us! Especially when Mom wants to sneak in a shower :) We only signed up in November of last year but it's worth it for us so far.

  3. Retirement journey, eh? Sounds nice. But I didn't start having children until most women are done having them, so I've got a number of get-to-it years to go. Enjoy retirement for me, ok? :O) My oldest is a big fan of Netflix. He'll come to my computer to talk, and I'll be searching for a show and he's all, "They have that on Netflix, y'know." He's 16..I'm just glad he still talks to me!

    1. I retired at 56 for health reasons and thought I would chronicle this journey into the unknown. My son frequently tells me the movie I want to watch is on Netflix! Funny!

  4. We have Netflix. I think we pay £5.99 per month, which is cheaper than Sky television. And I absolutely love it. There's always something to watch, but sometimes I feel like I'm wasting a lot of my time watch back to back episodes of different programmes. I'm now in the middle of watching The Office (the US version). I love it.

  5. I used to have it, just the mail delivery type. We stopped because we pretty much stopped watching the dvds. I keep thinking about getting a tv that could do the streaming and going back to it.
