I would love to call this recipe "Sugar Free" but we all know the apples have plenty of sugar just as God made them. This is the apple pie recipe I used when my children were growing up and I have even served it for breakfast! I made an apple pie using this recipe and took it to a potluck last weekend and it was a hit. If you are sugar "challenged" or just want to cut back on your sugar intake, try this recipe and I think you will be pleased. Apple Pie--No Sugar Added
6-8 Fugi apples (or apples of your choice), pared, cored and thinly sliced
(about 6 cups)
1 15 ounce can crushed pineapple, drained
3 Tablespoons unbleached flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Dash ground nutmeg
Pastry for 2-crust 10-inch pie
2 Tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
Combine first five ingredients. Line pie plate with pastry. Spread butter/margarine over pastry bottom and sides. Fill with apple mixture. Place top crust over apples, seal and cut slits in top crust for steam to escape. Bake at 400 degrees for 50 minutes or until apples are soft but not mushy.
