On Wikipedia I found that Yahtzee was made by Milton Bradley in 1956. It is a game that was a development of earlier dice games such as Yacht and Generala.
When my kids were young we would have a set amount of time that we did chores and then we were all rewarded by playing table games or having a read aloud. It was always such fun!
What was your favorite game as a child?
It was my FAVOURITE game too, Kat. I do LOVE Yahtzee ... if we ever meet we will have to have us a go. I like playing the whole card at once, is what my g/f and I used to do. x
ReplyDeleteYou're on! I like to play the whole card at once too!
DeleteLove it too.. and "Sorry" was awesome! lol!
ReplyDeleteOh, we used to play Sorry too! Now I play it with my granddaughter!
DeleteMy sister plays loads of games with her kids and they get new, more difficult ones as they're getting older. They invariably trounce me at anything we're playing. I can't even win Guess Who? most of the time!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to a friend's small housewarming party later on this week and apparently after I left the pub the other night they decided that after dinner, we'd play some board games. I'm looking forward to it, even if I don't have much to offer. I reckoned the crowd of Germans might not be too happy if I brought along my English Boggle and it's not really the right crowd to offer Muppets Top Trumps to either. I think I will try and find Pass the Pigs though - I got that when I was about fifteen and we played it every day we were on holidays that year. Hilarious game, especially if you have any competitive people playing!
Too funny...playing English Boggle with Germans:) You'd win for sure! Pass the Pigs is a good one! Haven't played it for awhile.
DeleteHaven't playedit for years, but there's a box around here somewhere. I should find it and put it in the RV for camping.
ReplyDeleteWe love to take games for camping! That's about the only time I can get hubby to play games with me!
DeleteI remember not particularly enjoying board games when I was growing up. It seems like I was always getting soundly beaten by my older siblings when we played Monopoly or Risk. Now I do ok at Scrabble or Trivial Pursuit, but since my kids are all adults, I still rarely am a winner.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to win at least some of the time. My daughter and granddaughter like to play board games so I play a lot when I'm there. My granddaughter's new favorite is Payday.
