Beau |
Beau is our fourth Great Dane in 34 years of marriage. He is our second "rescue" Great Dane from the Willamette Great Dane Rescue. We got him a year and a half ago from a home where he was abused by a man who wore a hat:( He had a fear of men for a long time but is better with my husband and son but still has a fear of other men.
In the last year and half we have had a hard time getting him to eat his dog food. We buy high quality dog food for him but he turns up his nose at it and has continued to get thinner and thinner. Well, it appear that his previous family fed him "people" food and even took him through the drive-thru at McDonald's to get him hamburgers! No wonder he doesn't want dog food. So we have started mixing his dog food with some "people" food and he is eating every last bite! I have always been opposed to giving the dogs "people" food because the vet says it's not good for them but it's not good for the dog to get so thin either!
Beau and Rocky |
Beau and our English Bull Dog, Rocky, are the best of friends! They play together and lie on the floor together in front of the wood stove. One of their favorite activities is wrestling in the living room:(
I hope you enjoyed meeting Beau!
Thanks for stopping by during the A to Z Blog Challenge. Stop by tomorrow for the letter C!
what a gorgeous pair of dogs you have. Have always loved Great Danes, but with my shoulders I couldn't handle them.

Great Danes are wonderful dogs but he is way too much dog for me to handle by myself.
DeleteI think these kind of dogs are the best. I think they know they are getting a second chance.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got to thinking about it, Beau is actually our third rescue Great Dane. The first was 34 years ago and hubby got him from the pound just before he was going to be killed. He was a very loyal and gentle dog. I could handle him easily.
DeleteBeau is beau-tiful. Since getting my dog, I seem to fall in love with every dog I see!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely makes you more aware of other dogs! We have three of them at our house--Great Dane, English Bulldog and a 13 year old miniature dachshund.
DeleteI'm glad you figured out how to make him start eating and that he wasn't ill.
ReplyDeleteWe were really happy about that too! Thanks for visiting, Kristin!

ReplyDeleteI don't know how anybody could abuse ANY animal. The same man also beat his wife or so we strongly suspect:( Thanks for visiting, Carla!
DeleteThere's a lot of people food that people shouldn't even eat! Keep up the great parenting. He and Rockey are handsome fellows.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for visiting Bethie!
